At the close of 2011, the company's two distributors in Nicaragua were serving 849,000 electricity supply points in the country and had reached sales of 2,584 GWh during the year.
In September 2011, through the group's distribution companies, Gas Natural Fenosa reached an agreement with the Nicaraguan government to promote a new electrification expansion plan in the country, which over the next five years will raise the percentage of the population with access to electricity from 63% to 83%.
The agreement signed includes plans to expand grids in order to increase the availability of electricity in rural areas, providing energy to 110,000 families for the first time. This measure will benefit approximately 600,000 people.
The agreement also include plans to standardise the electricity supply for 164,000 families in settlements in the country's main cities, in order to improve the quality of the electricity service.
