Gas Natural Fenosa's plant in Costa Rica

The company operates the La Joya hydraulic power station in Costa Rica, which the group registered with the United Nations as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project and which has 50 MW of installed power.

In 2013, the group's hydroelectricity production in the country stood at 239 GWh.

In June 2012, the Costa Rica Electricity Institute (in Spanish, ICE) awarded Gas Natural Fenosa a contract to build and operate another hydroelectric plant for a 20-year period: the Torito plant, with 50 MW of installed power. The plant, which will commence operations in 2016, will make the multinational energy firm the largest electricity producer in the Central American country.
