Gas Natural Fenosa has 51 MW of installed power in electricity generation in Costa Rica.
In Costa Rica, the company operates the La Joya hydroelectric plant, which the group registered with the United Nations as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project.
In 2009, the group's hydroelectricity production in the country stood at 259 GWh.
Also, in March 2008, the Instituto Costerricense de Electricidad (ICE) awarded the company a contract to build and operate another hydroelectric plant for a 20 year period: the Torito plant, with 50 MW of installed power. Gas Natural Fenosa is in the process of completing the construction of the facilities and it is scheduled to come into operation at the end of 2011.
